Nancy Palker, originally from Connecticut, began her nursing career on the Rosebud Reservation in South Dakota. Palker’s book, Magic and Tragic Rosebud, describes her time as a young nurse at the Public Health Service Indian Hospital in that community, which suffered from severe under staffing and under funding. In addition to budgetary challenges, encountering a different culture and its traditions brought another layer of complexity and richness to her days in Rosebud. Join Nancy Palker as she discusses her book, filled with unforgettable characters and a list of suggested ways to help. The author’s profits are being returned to the Lakota people of Rosebud.
