Sunday Fun Day Craft Workshop – Corn Husk Dolls
April 11 @ 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Throughout the Spring, the IAIS Education Department is offering small group craft workshops on Sunday afternoons. Sign up for a time slot with your family and friends. Express your creativity while learning about the world around you and connecting with a culture that has thousands of years of history in the area.
When you shuck an ear of corn, what do you do with the husks? For many people today, they will throw them away or compost them. Traditionally, Native people would use them to make all kinds of things, from baskets, to mats, to dolls – and sometimes even moccasins. In this week’s workshop, join IAIS educators as you make your very own corn husk doll and learn the traditional story behind why they do not have faces.
