Join us (virtually) this Saturday for an afternoon of discussion, education, and admiration centered around IAIS' newest temporary exhibition - Crafting an Image. After a tour of the exhibit with our Curator, Paul Wegner, enjoy a live discussion with managers of the Cameron Trade Post in AZ as we talk about the importance of trade posts to Native art throughout the post's long history.
In addition to this, there will be a viewing of a previously recorded interview with Kwagu’l (Kwakwaka’wakw) artist Calvin Hunt about his work, his family legacy and the importance of art to indigenous peoples throughout the Americas. This interview is part of IAIS' Native Artist Series, cosponsored by the Connecticut Community Foundation, which features interviews and lectures by Native artists beginning November 21, 2020.
As our museum continues to operate during this ongoing pandemic, we are seeking your support. Help us continue to provide vital educational experience to the public centered around Native lifeways, both past and present. Donations can be made below or on our donorbox page.
Additionally, an online auction will be taking place beginning November 28 featuring art by Native artists and artisans from around the Americas. Lastly, if you are looking for a unique gift this holiday that supports indigenous art, visit our virtual holiday market taking place this December.
We hope you can join us for this event, and in supporting the vibrant Native artistic community.
