This is a virtual event.
Looking to expand your reading list and discuss a variety of issues and topics important to Native people? Please join our virtual book club, As They Speak: Native Voices in Today’s Literature. Based on a variety of topics and featuring a range of genres, all of the books we will be reading have been written by contemporary authors. This month, in celebration of National Poetry Month, we will be reading and discussing New Poets of Native Nations edited by Heid E. Erdrich (Ojibwe, enrolled Turtle Mountain). This poetry anthology features the work of twenty- one Indigenous poets whose first books were published after the year 2000 to highlight the exciting works of poets coming up after Joy Harjo and Sherman Alexie. Collected here are poems of great breadth—long narratives, political outcries, experimental works, and traditional lyrics—and the result is an essential anthology of some of the best poets writing now.
