The history of boarding schools and adoption to Non-Native families has seen countless numbers of Native American youth separated from their families and communities. Indeed, Native American /Alaska Native children remain three times more likely to be placed in foster care than white children. Join us for a screening of the 2019 documentary Blood Memory: A Story of Removal and Return, which examines the effects of this removal on indigenous communities, as well as the role that traditional song and ceremony can play in healing this intergenerational wound. After the screening, participate in a discussion with Carolyn Matter (White Mountain Apache), herself an adoptee, who moderates the Turquoise Moccasins Talking Circle for adoptees and their families in Phoenix, AZ.
