“Illuminating the Relationship Between Culture and Health: Advocating for Inclusive and Equitable Systems of Care for Indigenous Peoples”

December 4, 2024 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Wednesday, December 4th
7PM
This is a virtual event.

The historical and contemporary impacts of colonization and ongoing settler colonialism have eroded many Indigenous communities’ connection to their cultures, contributing to observed health disparities. Despite these challenges, Indigenous Peoples have been widely successful in protecting their cultural traditions and healing practices from complete erasure. In this engaging, interactive presentation, Kiara M. Tanta-Quidgeon, (Mohegan), who has a Masters in Public Health from Columbia University, will discuss culture as a key determinant of physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, and community health for Indigenous Peoples in the United States. This presentation aims to illuminate the significant role of cultural connectedness in promoting well-being and fostering healing in Indigenous communities, advocating for a shift towards more inclusive and equitable systems of care for Indigenous Peoples.
