Into the Armed Service of the United States: Connecticut Indians in the United States Colored Infantry with David Naumec

Historians have often considered “colored” Civil War units through the lens of African-American history only. As a result, the accepted historical narrative regards United States Colored Troops as regiments consisting solely of African-American men, neglecting the Indian men and individuals of Indian descent who also served alongside their African American comrades. In actuality, such units contained Native American men from the region along with individuals from China, East India, Hawaii, St. Helena and Spain. Join military historian David Naumec in a discussion of Connecticut Indians’ participation in the Civil War.

Fee: $5 General Public; LHAC Members free.
