In-Person, Outdoor Event, in collaboration with Bridgewater Land Trust
Offsite Event: Indian Valley Farm, 100 Lake Lillinoah Road North, Bridgewater, CT
The area around Metichawan, or Lovers Leap State Park, has long been significant to local Indigenous communities, although some of this history has been obscured by the popular legend. Etuaptmumk, or “Two Eyed Seeing,” is an approach that integrates Western and Indigenous sciences and philosophies. Join us for a collaborative program featuring archaeologist Dr. Lucianne Lavin, Traditional Storyteller Darlene Kascak (Schaghticoke Tribal Nation), and Education Department staff from the Institute for American Indian Studies. In this program, we will apply “Two-Eyed Seeing” for a better understanding of the Indigenous history of this location. Together, we will attempt to construct a clearer picture of Indigenous life in this area, from the earliest inhabitants to the communities that remained nearby following European arrival.
Please note: this event will take place at “Indian Valley Farm” in Bridgewater, below “Lovers Leap” and surrounded by important archaeological sites. There is limited onsite parking, so carpooling is suggested. Attendees are encouraged to bring a folding chair.
Space is limited and pre-registration is required. To register, please use the following link. Questions? Please email [email protected] or call (860) 868 0518. Through the generosity of private sponsors, this is a FREE event.
