The Ancient Burying Ground is Hartford’s oldest historic site and the only one remaining from the 17th century. During that period, anyone who died in town could be buried there. Until recently, little was known about the identity of those of African and Native American heritage buried there. A team of researchers from Central Connecticut State University researched and created the database Uncovering Their History: African, African-American, and Native Americans in the Hartford Ancient Burying Ground. Join Dr. Katherine Hermes, Project Director and Professor of History at CCSU, for a discussion of this project and demonstration of the website’s features.
