Bark Basket Workshop with Jennifer Lee
June 5, 2022 @ 11:00 am - 4:00 pm
Spend the day in a woodland environment making a bark basket using traditional materials, guided by artist and educator Jennifer Lee
About This Event
Baskets have long been an integral part of Native American culture as storage containers, carrying baskets, cradleboards and in burial practices. Bark from pine, ash, or birch was often used to make the baskets and sewn together with spruce root. Join Jennifer Lee, Narragansett descent, who will guide participants in making a traditional bark basket using pine bark, spruce root and willow. Choose from several basket designs and enjoy!
Pictured below are the three basket options to choose from, in the following order:
- White Pine bark wall pocket, curved bottom (7H x 7W x 4D)
- White Pine Bark mokok with collar (4 ½H x 7W x 3D)
- White Pine Bark mokok with collar (7H x 4W x 3D).
Please choose your basket type on the order form when you complete registration. Photos by Ted B. Sierad, Ed & Helen Pelletier.
