Virtual Event

The Litchfield Hills Archaeology Club welcomes Peter Rzasa, a local historian, has a degree in Forest Chemistry from S.U.N.Y. College of Environmental Science, with an interest in forest landscape interpretation. Peter has researched the Woodbury Path, an ancient Native American path that originally connected what is now the Lower Naugatuck Valley with tribal communities closer to Long Island Sound. During the Colonial Period, European settlers in Oxford and Seymour widened the path so that they could more easily bring farm products to market. Ultimately, the path connected Woodbury and beyond with Derby landing, which was an important port for ships that carried produce to New York, Boston, Europe and the West Indies. Join Peter for a presentation and discussion on the colorful history of this ancient highway, its effect on commerce, its eventual demise, and where original sections can still be found.
